Dhangadhi: The Sudurpaschim Provincial Government has been unable to present the budget for the current fiscal year in the Provincial Assembly even two months after its formation. Chief Minister Khagaraj Bhatta had said the budget would be introduced through a “fast-track” process within Bhadra, but no progress had been made by the final day of the month.

The delay has affected salary and allowances for the chief minister, ministers and government employees, while the purchase of medicines and development projects have also been disrupted. According to the Provincial Policy and Planning Commission, ministries are still revising previous programs, and the budget may take about another week to reach the Provincial Assembly.

Earlier, the government had withdrawn a budget of more than Rs 37.70 billion presented on June 15 following disputes and announced that the new government would rewrite it. As the estimated savings from the previous fiscal year were lower than expected, the new budget is likely to be around Rs 32 billion.
