Law Amendment Planned to Provide Mothers Six Months of Paid Maternity Leave

Kathmandu: The government has initiated the process of amending the law to provide women with up to six months of paid maternity leave.

According to Law Minister Sobita Gautam, a draft bill to amend the Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights Act, 2018 has already been prepared. The proposed amendment includes at least six months of paid maternity leave for mothers and up to 42 days of paid paternity leave for fathers to help care for the newborn.

Minister Gautam said preparations are underway to get the draft approved by the Cabinet and table it in Parliament.
