DNA Samples to Be Collected From Families of Missing Foreign Nationals

Kathmandu : China has informed the embassies of the countries concerned about the process of collecting DNA samples from the families of foreign nationals who went missing in the devastating landslide that struck the China–Nepal border region on Bhadra 10.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that the concerned embassies had been informed about the DNA sample collection process as part of efforts to search for and identify the missing foreign nationals.

According to Guo, once the bodies of missing foreign nationals are recovered, the identification process will be carried out to confirm their identities. After identification, the relevant embassies will be contacted to coordinate further procedures, including the management and repatriation of the bodies.

Meanwhile, authorities in southwest China’s Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region have launched a hotline service for the families of missing foreign nationals. Guo said the service would provide the families with necessary information and assistance in a timely manner.
